AVAILABLE EQUIPMENT

Our research requires equipment to synthesize and characterize thin film and bulk materials.

Some of the required equipment is shown below:

Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) System: (PLD1  PLD2  PLD3)  This system consists of the following: UHV main deposition chamber pumped with a 500 l/s turbo and an ion pump, 4-target indexer carousel, radiant heater with sample transfer, load lock system for both targets and substrates.  Other accessories include: E-beam evaporator, magnet (in near future), and ion gun.

Magneto-optic Kerr Effect (MOKE) System:  (MOKE1)  The MOKE systems is currently being upgraded to include temperature control (that is why the picture shows a disassembled system).  Also, the optics are being upgraded.  The electromagnet can produce fields of about 3 kGauss max.

MMA Difftech Mini Materials Analyzer X Ray Diffractometer (XRD): (XRD1)  The MMA has two detectors: One for standard powder scans and another (parallel optics) detector for low angles (thin film measurements).

SQUID Magnetometer: (SQUID1)  This is a standard SQUID magnetometer from Quantum Design that is in Professor Naushad Ali's lab.

AC Susceptometer: (AC1) By Lakeshore (Prof. Ali)

Thermal Expansion System: (EXP1)  Homemade system (Prof. Ali)

Arc-Melter: ARC1

Mill, Press, and Vacuum Furnace:  MP1  VF1
